Customer Story - My Experience with the Oral Refresh Dental Scaler

Picture of smiling woman with magnifying glass in front of mouth. For dental scaler blog post - Oral Refresh from WhiteWaveSmile

Disclosure: The customer offered to provide this review voluntarily. We at WhiteWaveSmile did not request it from her or provide any monetary compensation. But since she enjoyed our dental scaler we gave her a free Aqua Jet Refresh water flosser by way of thanks and to encourage her to keep up her oral hygiene. This review has been lightly edited, and the picture is a stock photo (not the actual customer).

What is a Home Dental Scaler?

Before diving into my personal experience, let's first understand what a home dental scaler is and why you need one in your life right now. Picture this: you're looking in the mirror, checking out your smile. You see something yellow, between your teeth and right above your gumline. It's noticeable. REALLY noticeable. You pick at it with your nail but it doesn't go away. Great. You have a tartar problem. And chances are people have seen it, were probably disgusted by it, but were too polite to say anything about it.

Now you have to decide whether or not to schedule a dental cleaning. You're making a list of pros and cons. High on the list of cons: the cost and anxiety of a visit to the dentist. You shudder. Then maybe you do some googling on how to remove tartar at home. Preferably quickly and cheaply.

Then you stumble upon a tool called a home dental scaler. And it says it's exactly what you're looking for. A nifty little device that helps remove plaque and tartar buildup from your teeth in the comfort of your own home safely and effectively. It says it's like having your own personal dentist in the comfort of your own bathroom! Yeah right. And it doesn't take training to do so? Come on, really?

My Initial Skepticism

When I first heard about the home dental scaler, I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical. I mean, how could a tiny tool replace the expertise of a professional dentist? But I read a few reviews from curious customers just like myself who tried it. And although it wasn't as thorough as a visit to the dentist, it was effective enough to remove most of the tartar, leaving behind just trace amounts that really weren't so noticeable or unhealthy. Sounded good to me. So curiosity got the better of me, and I decided to give it a try.

Does a Home Dental Scaler Actually Work?

As I unboxed my new home dental scaler (the Oral Refresh from WhiteWaveSmile), I felt a mix of excitement and nervousness. Could this little  device really remove my tartar, saving me hundreds the dentist would charge? We were about to find out.

I followed the instructions especially the warnings carefully and used a low setting before gently trying to scrape away the tartar from my teeth. And it wasn't like a jackhammer banging away against my tooth, to my great relief. The scaler was vibrating very quickly but not wildly, and gave me confidence to try a faster setting.

The tartar came off surprisingly easy, in little hard pieces that smelt awful. I could only ask myself "Did people smell this when talking to me?" How embarrassing!  But what a relief to see the dental scaler actually works as advertised! It didn't remove all the tartar but most of it, especially the tartar hiding behind and between my lower teeth. It was oddly satisfying. Like playing a mini-game, trying to remove every last bit of smelly buildup I could.

After about 5-10 minutes I had removed about 80% of my tartar. Basically I removed most of the tartar the dentist would, in less time, with faaaaaaaar less cost, and not to mention little-to-no anxiety. Why aren't more people using this?

Another Customer Testimonial

Don't just take my word for it. My husband's a much bigger sceptic than me, and he couldn't believe the dental scaler worked as well as it did. So he got one for himself. His thoughts?

"The dental scaler works pretty well on its own but the electric toothbrush is something else! It's way faster than my O***-B electric toothbrush. Like comparing a Camry to a Corvette. The Oral Refresh might be worth it just for the toothbrush itself."

Not quite what I was expecting but good enough for me!

Final Thoughts On Scaling Teeth with a Home Dental Scaler

So, there you have it, my experience with a home dental scaler. For me it's a game-changer. Not only does it save me money on frequent dental cleanings, but it also gives me a sense of control over my own oral health. Plus, it's oddly satisfying to see all the gunk that comes off my teeth!

And while it may not replace regular dental check-ups, it can definitely be a handy tool to have in your oral hygiene arsenal. Just remember to use it with caution and follow the instructions carefully. And who knows, you might just discover a newfound love for dental hygiene!
